7 Fun Google Tricks You Should Know

As we all know, Google is the world’s largest/most used search engine. It processes around 10 billion searches every day. It provides its users with all the information they need, as and when they need it. Whether you’re looking for a new recipe or for information on a mortgage, Google is always on standby to help.

Google is more than just a search engine, did you know it’s filled with secret tricks and games? No? Well, today we will be showing you some cool Google tricks to show your friends and family. They’re sure to impress anyone!

That’s enough chit chat, for now, let’s jump into the fun stuff!

1. Do a Barrel Roll

Now, this is one of the most well known Google tricks. Simply, by typing “do a barrel roll” into Google your screen will do a full 360° rotation. What are you still doing here? Go give it ago! This simple trick is an easy crowd-pleaser.

2. Atari Breakout

Looking to pass some time? Yes? Well, Atari Breakout is the perfect Google trick for you. A twist on the classic 90’s game, Atari Breakout will provide hours of fun for all ages, even those who didn’t get to experience the real thing back in the 90s.

To find Atari Breakout, simply search for “Atari Breakout” in Google and select images.

When a page like the one above appears, select the first image. Top tip: you can tell it’s the right one as the address on the image is “elgoog.im” (Google spelt backwards.) Once selected, simply click the enlarged image and get playing! Be sure to let us know what your high score is over on Twitter.

3. Askew

Simply search “Askew” on Google and watch what happens to your screen. You’ll notice a slight tilt to your screen. Not the most intriguing google trick, but is definitely a classic.

4. Recursion

Have you ever Googled recursion? No? Well, then you may not have noticed Google’s fun little trick! We all know the definition of recursion, right? It means repeating. Well, Google has hidden a little trick, which you may have not noticed before… Before we tell you what it is, have a go and see if you can notice it yourself.

3…2…1… times up! Spoiler alert if you still haven’t given it a go.

Google Search Recursion

You may have noticed what seems like an automatic Google spelling correction.

Google Search. Did you mean: Recursion

There is no spelling mistake, but simply by clicking it, you get caught in an infinite loop, much like recursion! It’ll just keep appearing no matter how many times you click on it.

5. Google Gravity

Google Gravity is another classic, but there’s just something so exciting about this fun trick! To activate Google gravity, simply search “Google gravity” and click “I’m feeling lucky”, like the image below.

Google Search for Google Gravity

Then watch your screen fall apart as you turn on Google Gravity. You can still even click and use the search bar and other buttons.

6. Google Pac-Man

Now, If you’re a big fan of Pac-Man like myself, then you’re going to love this Google trick! Simply search “Google Pacman” and you’ll be presented with the game, so now you can play Pac-Man whenever you like.

7. Friends

As some of you friends fans may be aware of, Friends recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of their first-ever show. In celebration, Google released a fun trick! Some of you die-hard fans may have already found these little Easter eggs, but for those who haven’t these ones are for you!

By searching one of the main Friends character’s names in Google, you’ll be presented a little profile to the right of the screen. Each of the characters has a little icon that represents their personality or key parts in the show. Here are a few of my personal favourites, if you don’t want spoilers, look away now.

Google Search for Phoebe from Friends

When you click on the guitar for Phoebe Buffay, smelly cat appears and walks across the bottom of your screen! As for Ross Geller, you can see a little sofa (couch if you’re American) in the corner, when clicked the screen PIVOTS! This continues to turn each time you click on it until the sofa breaks, now that’s clever.

Google Search for Ross from friends

Google is more than just a search engine. I’m sure you can understand that now! These are just a few of my personal favourites, but be sure to keep those eyes peeled for more hidden Google tricks as they’re released all the time.
