Many businesses ignore the idea of SEO, or simply do not know or understand what it is or even know what it can do for their business. Simply, SEO is crucial to success and can only ever have a positive effect on a business’s online presence, that is of course if it is done correctly.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and it is defined as being the process of increasing the quantity as well as the quality of consumers to a particular website through the use of organic search and the adherence of Google’s quality guidelines and ranking factors.

SEO compiles a vast range of strategies, actions, and best practices, which all have the exact same end goal of improving a website’s position within search engines.

SEO works in two parts, on-site and off-site. The on-site side of SEO consists of anything that is on the physical website and can be controlled or changed by the owner of the website or anyone who has access to the backend of the website, to improve rankings. This refers to such things as header text, page titles, keyword density and much much more. Whereas off-site consists of things that are done through other websites to influence your website’s rankings, this is mainly based around backlinks to your website from others.

To optimise your website to increase rankings within search engines it takes a large amount of time and patience, a vast knowledge of SEO, and a strong as well as successful implementation of desired on-site and off-site ranking factors. 

No matter the approach taken with SEO, it can take a while for any optimisations done to show a positive effect on the business as a whole. And as previously mentioned, SEO has to be done correctly to ensure positive results, if it has been done incorrectly or your website has become over optimised it can result in negative results or even being penalised by Google.


Why is SEO so Important?

Search Engine Optimisation improves the ranking factors of a website, through these ranking factors Google is able to determine whether a website should rank highly within its SERP’s (Search Engine Results Pages). Once Google acknowledges that a website has the correct ranking factors and has built up authority and trust around it, the real benefits of SEO come through.

When the work from Search Engine Optimisation begins to make a site rank well, the main thing that you will see is an influx of traffic which will then lead to a higher conversion rate and ultimately a higher ROI (Return On Investment).
